Europe Plus in cooperation with BSC2025 to Host Roundtable on “Resetting Enlargement: A New Approach towards the Western Balkans”

In cooperation with the Belgrade Security Forum, Europe Plus (E+) will organize a roundtable discussion titled “Resetting Enlargement: A New Approach towards the Western Balkans”, scheduled to take place on November 19, 2025.
The discussion will examine the current shortcomings of the EU enlargement process and propose a Smarter Enlargement Approach, based on deeper conditionality and staged integration, to ensure both speed and substance in the process.
The roundtable will also address regional sensitivities, present a framework for sustainable democratic change, and emphasize the need for increased funding for enlargement within the upcoming EU Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034).
The session will be moderated by Dr. Majlinda Bregu and will feature:
 
  • Prof. Dr. Tanja Miščević, University Professor and former Minister for European Integration of Serbia
  • Ms. Biljana Papović, State Secretary for European Affairs of Montenegro
  • Dr. Fatmir Besimi, CEO of Strategers and former Minister of Finance of North Macedonia
  • Mr. Agon Maliqi, Policy Analyst
 
This roundtable is part of Europe Plus’ ongoing efforts to promote a more credible, inclusive, and results-oriented enlargement agenda for the Western Balkans.

46 Civil Society Organisations Call on the EU to Embed Enlargement in the Next

A Joint Appeal to the European Parliament and EU Member States

A coalition of 46 civil society organizations from the Western Balkans, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova addressed a joint appeal to the European Parliament and to the EU Member States, urging them to make enlargement a core strategic and budgetary priority in the upcoming EU long-term budget (MFF 2028–2034).
